Born in Trinidad, British West Indies. Grew up in Paris in the late 1950s and 1960s.

After studying Architecture at the University of Notre Dame, earned advanced degrees in Landscape Architecture at the University of Virginia and in Forestry and Environmental Management at Duke University.

While in the Geography Ph.D. program at UNC, Chapel Hill, specialized in Cartography, World Vegetation and Cultural Geography. During and after graduate school was with the U.S.D.A. forest Service. Rio Grande National Forest, Colorado, in both landscape architecture and architecture capacities. Projects at the time included the field reconnaissance and mapping for the Southern Colorado route of the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail. Living in Nepal in 1979-1980 explored and collected rare plants and seeds for the Inter-Nepal Nursery and Landscape Center, Bhutan. Later taught Design, Site Engineering and Planting Design for Architecture at Louisiana State University, University of Virginia and North Carolina State University.

In 1985 combined university teaching with the opening of Butterfly Ridge Design and Works, Inc. in Durham, NC. A professional practice at Landscape Architecture, Site Planning, Building Design, as well as, Vegetation and Topographic Mapping. Has taught perspective drawing at the Carrboro Art Center and is a certified Master Gardener.
